MEET YOUR HOSTS
We're Carl and Nita Barker of Barker's Birds and Hunt Services. We originally began as Barker's Greenhouses in 1998. We had 17 greenhouses where we grew bedding plants, cantaloupe, watermelon, peppers, tomatoes and gourds among other varieties for transplanting. We began producing gamebirds in 2000 and decreased the greenhouse business. Our former greenhouses make excellent flight pens for conditioned birds. In the near future we plan to only raise birds and conduct our hunting services.
Carl has been an avid birdhunter all his life and has hunted in many different areas of the country. He began upland birdhunting and duck hunting in southeast Missouri while he was a teenager. He has owned and operated several kennels in the past, primarily breeding and training Labrador and Chesapeake retrievers. We currently breed English pointers on our hunting preserve.
Barker's Birds and Hunt Services is the home of the 2003-2004 National Birdhunter Association Puppy of the Year, Willie B. Birddog. He is the grandson of Honky Tonk Attitude on both sides. He carries that regal head and has the muscular physique so desired in birddogs. Our dam is Lucille Evelyn Jones out of Champion Miller's Silver Bullet. She sports the solid white which the Miller dogs are noted for. Both these dogs were raised here in the "bird patch" and make excellent hunting companions. Our guides are hunters who have retired or wish they could. Most have a long time hunting and dog training history and a wealth of stories to go along with them. It is truly awesome to watch and hunt with these experienced dogs and guides.
